Summary:
A gurnard with enlarged hyperostotic head bones (first infraorbital, preopercular ridge that includes bones of the infraorbital series, frontal bones in front of orbit, parietals, nuchal spines), cleithral spines, and dorsal-fin spines 2, 3, and 4. Pectoral-fin rays 12+3. Nape and breast scaled.

Near Saumarez Reef, off Queensland (22º53’S - 23º12’S). Elsewhere, the species occurs in the tropical Western Pacific (Japan, Philippines) and the eastern Indian Ocean (Indonesia). Depth range (Australia) 325-466m. |
Etymology |
The species name cajorarori is based on a combination of the first two letters of the senior author’s grand-daughters Carolyn, Josephine, Rachel, Rosemary, and Riley. |
