Summary:
A recently described ghost flathead found off north Western Australia with the rear margin of caudal fin having a distinctly rounded central part bounded by notches on the upper and lower lobes, and a yellow first dorsal fin with white anterior and posterior margins.

Distribution

Recorded in Australia from off Point Cloates, Western Australia (23°24′S). Found elsewhere in the Western Pacific, in Tosa Bay, off Kochi, Japan, and in the East China Sea, around the Senkaku Islands. Depth range 200-500 m.

Colour

Light brown above, with irregular yellowish markings and three indistinct brownish bands, underside white. First dorsal fin yellow with white anterior and posterior margins; second dorsal fin translucent yellow. Pectoral fin light brown, same colour as body, with obscure yellowish blotches. Anal fin translucent, white basally and red distally. Upper lobe of caudal fin white with indistinct yellowish bands, lower lobe orangish or yellowish (Nagano et al. 2013).

Etymology

The species is named for the fish market in Kochi City, Mimase, where the holotype was found.
