Summary:
A pale sharpnose puffer with clusters of brown blotches on the sides; upper-surface of head and body yellow with blue lines; a blue-edged brown spot on the back of the head; and lower part of head and lower sides whitish with small blue spots.

Distribution |
Known from the Coral Sea off north Queensland (collected by Cairns Marine), and the Australian territory of Christmas Island in the Eastern Indian Ocean. The species also occurs in the Philippines, Ambon in Indonesia, Guam and the Cook Islands. Inhabits deep reefs, usually in caves and under ledges on steep drop-offs, at 30 m or below. |

Some individuals lack the blue spots on the lower part of the head and sides. |
