Summary:
A reddish armoured gurnard with a black margin on the dorsal fin. Murray's Armoured Gurnard has a relatively short rostral process (24.6–31.3% HL) and lacks forward-directed spines on the posterior bony plates of the upper lateral row.

Dorsal fiun VII, 20-22; Anal fin 20-21; Lip barbels 4.
Head large, broadly expanded laterally; rostral process relatively short, flattened, 24.6–31.3% HL; upper jaw long, 49–51% HL; lower jaw long, 40–43% HL; filamentous barbel long, extending to dorsal-fin origin; no forward-directed spines on posterior bony plates of upper lateral row.
