Distribution

Cocos (Keeling) Islands in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species is widespread in the Indo-Pacific: East Africa to the Line and Tuamoto islands, north to Hawaii.
Commonly inhabits rubble and coral reefs that are subject to considerable wave action, sheltering in reef crevices and cracks.

Feeding

Feeds on crustaceans.
