NW of Point Cloates, Western Australia, in 1017-1075m depth. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indo-Pacific: Madagascar, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Japan, Vanuatu. |
Features |
Vertebrae 173-183. Characterised by having a relatively elongate delicate and flexible body, depth at anus 2.2-5.9 %TL; head length 7.1-9.5 %TL, 25.6-36.2 %PAL, 1.8-2.8 times in trunk; dorsal-fin origin well behind the tip of pectoral fin; supratemporal pore present; fleshy papillae on lower jaw, but not dorsally on head; no sensory pits on the ventral surface of head and anterior body. |
Etymology |
The specific name brachialis is from the Latin brachial (= of or belonging to the arm), in reference to the long pectoral fins of this species. |
