Summary:
A medium-sized sharpnosed puffer with a relatively deep brownish body and tail covered in blue spots, blue lines radiating from the eyes and around the snout, and dark spots and dashes below the eye.

Distribution

Known in Australia from Cape York to about Sydney, New South Wales. Elsewhere, widespread in the tropical Indo-Pacific from East Africa to the Galapagos Islands. Inhabits coral reefs, often in the surge zone.

Features

Meristic features: Dorsal fin 10-12; Anal fin 10-11.

Feeding

Feeds mostly on algaae, and also on a range of benthic invertebrates.
