Distribution |
Endemic to eastern Tasmania, from Great Oyster Bay to Frederick Henry Bay in the Derwent Estuary. The type specimens were dredged from a weed and sponge bottom in a scallop bed, depth 7-8 fathoms. Inhabits soft sediment areas in depths to 40 m. |

Etymology |
The species is named in honour of Ernest E. Andrews, Chief Inspector of Fisheries for Tasmania, who “whilst examining material brought up in the dredges noticed a small flat fish of unusual appearance which he preserved and sent to the author for identification”. |
