Distribution

Endemic to eastern Tasmania, from Great Oyster Bay to Frederick Henry Bay in the Derwent Estuary. The type specimens were dredged from a weed and sponge bottom in a scallop bed, depth 7-8 fathoms.
Inhabits soft sediment areas in depths to 40 m.

Etymology

The species is named in honour of Ernest E. Andrews, Chief Inspector of Fisheries for Tasmania, who “whilst examining material brought up in the dredges noticed a small flat fish of unusual appearance which he preserved and sent to the author for identification”.
