Summary:
A relatively slender pale brownish flounder with darker spots on the body and fins, and a dark blotch sometimes anteriorly on the straight part of the lateral line.

Distribution |
Northwest Shelf, Western Australia, the Arafura Sea north of the Cobourg Peninsula, Northern Territory, and off Cairns, Queensland (possibly with a continuous distribution across northern Australia). Elsewhere the species occurs in the east-Indo-west Pacific: Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia. Inhabits coral-sand areas on the continental shelf and upper slope. |

Etymology |
The specific name is from the Latin elongatus (= elongate), in reference to the slender body of this species compared with that of Psettina profunda, also described by Weber in the same publication and considered a congener at the time. |
