Summary:
A relatively slender pale brownish flounder with darker spots on the body and fins, and a dark blotch sometimes anteriorly on the straight part of the lateral line.

Distribution

Northwest Shelf, Western Australia, the Arafura Sea north of the Cobourg Peninsula, Northern Territory, and off Cairns, Queensland (possibly with a continuous distribution across northern Australia). Elsewhere the species occurs in the east-Indo-west Pacific: Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
Inhabits coral-sand areas on the continental shelf and upper slope.

Dorsal fin 100-108; Anal fin 78-83. 
Body slender, depth 2.1-3.0 in SL; 

Etymology

The specific name is from the Latin elongatus (= elongate), in reference to the slender body of this species compared with that of Psettina profunda, also described by Weber in the same publication and considered a congener at the time.
