  • Sevenbar Weedfish Sevenbar Weedfish Heteroclinus equiradiatus (Milward 1960) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus
  • Ogilby's Weedfish Ogilby's Weedfish Heteroclinus heptaeolus (Ogilby 1885) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus A variably coloured weedfish with the head and body reddish-brown or greenish-brown, either of uniform in colour or with seven to eight broad brown to black broken bars on the body and tail forming saddles along the back and extending onto the dorsal and anal fins, a white to pale crescent-shaped bar on the upper base of each pectoral fin, a mottled head sometimes with short, brown, oblique bars radiating from the rear of the eye, and single silver or white bar extending from behind each eye. The second dorsal and anal fins have clear interspaces between dark blotches, the first dorsal fin is dark, and the other fins have series of dark spots forming transverse bands.
  • Johnston's Weedfish Johnston's Weedfish Heteroclinus johnstoni (Saville-Kent 1886) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus A mottled brown to reddish weedfish with large lobed nasal tentacles, irregular bars on the body extending onto the dorsal and anal fins and each enclosing a large black spot (each surrounded by yellow to yellowish-brown ring) along the back, and a whitish patch extending from the eye onto the cheek.
  • Short-tassel Weedfish Short-tassel Weedfish Heteroclinus flavescens (Hutton 1872) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus
  • Largenose Weedfish Largenose Weedfish Heteroclinus nasutus (Günther 1861) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus Largenose Weedfish vary greatly in colour. Males are yellow to brown with a narrow brown bar extending ventrally from below each eye, white tips on the dorsal fin, and a series of brown spots forming transverse bands on the pectoral and caudal fins.  Females are greenish-brown with five vertical, narrow white bars on the body extending onto the dorsal and anal fins, often a dark stripe extending from the end of each eye towards the first dorsal fin and a narrow brown vertical bar extending ventrally from each eye. The pectoral and caudal fins are pale with brown spots forming series of transverse bands, and the first dorsal fin is dark.
  • Common Weedfish Common Weedfish Heteroclinus perspicillatus (Valenciennes 1836) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus A common weedfish in shallow seagrass beds and on macroalgal-covered rocky reefs in southern Australia, usually with the dorsal fins only connected at their bases, about 7 broken bars along the sides, and a large black spot below the first dorsal fin. The Common Weedfish is abundant in shallow seagrass and algal beds in Port Phillip Bay, Victoria.
  • Little Weedfish Little Weedfish Heteroclinus puellarum (Scott 1955) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus A pale to dark brown weedfish with two or three blackish oblique bars extending posteriorly from behind each eye, dark dorsal and anal fins interspaced with pale patches and white tips, a dark caudal fin with white tips, and dusky pectoral and pelvic fins with brown spots forming transverse bands.
  • Rosy Weedfish Rosy Weedfish Heteroclinus roseus (Günther 1861) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus A mottled yellowish, reddish to brownish weedfish with 7 reddish marbled bands extending onto the dorsal and anal fins, a blackish blotch surrounded by white on middle of pectoral-fin base, and mottled fins with transparent areas and a dark margin.
  • Longnose Weedfish Longnose Weedfish Heteroclinus tristis (Klunzinger 1872) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus A large well-camouflaged weedfish with a long tapering snout and a very large mouth. The first dorsal fin arises on top of the head behind the eye and is not connected to the second dorsal fin.  Longnose weedfishes usually live amongst algae on shallow sandy bottoms or nearby rocky reefs.
  • Banded Weedfish Banded Weedfish Heteroclinus whiteleggii (Ogilby 1894) Actinopterygii > Perciformes > Clinidae > Heteroclinus Highly variable in colour, ranging from dark brown to olive-green or pink, usually with darker wavy bands or saddles extending onto the dorsal fin, often a broad dark midlateral stripe from the upper jaw to the caudal peduncle, and a series of white spots or dashes along the lower sides.
