Summary:
A relatively stout deep-bodied translucent greyish dwarfgoby with orange scale margins, six faint dark internal bars ventrally on body just above base of anal-fin to caudal peduncle, and close-set, irregular dusky brown spots on the cheek.

Distribution |
Offshore reefs on north Western Australia, and the northern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, and reefs in the Coral Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, east-Indo-west-central Pacific: Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia, east to Samoa, Tonga and Rapa, north to the Ryukyu Islands, Japan, and south to Australia |

Dorsal Fin VI + I,8; Anal fin I,8; Pectoral fin 14-15; Longitudinal scale series 21-24. Body depth 3.5-4.1 in SL; ninth to fourteenth pectoral-fin rays usually branched; scales ctenoid, absent from head, nape, chest and pectoral-fin base; pelvic fin separate, thin membrane joining bases; fourth pelvic ray with 4-7 branches. |
Remarks |
Williams et al. (2016) suggested that E. herrei may be restricted to Samoa. |
Etymology |
The species is named for Mr W.C.T. Herre - Albert William Christian Theodore Herre, an American ichthyologist and lichenologist. |
