Summary:
A very small pale brown goby densely covered in tiny dark spots, some forming three bars on the head, and a series of eight pale cream to white spots on the dorsal part of the head and body.

Distribution |
Known only from the type locality: Bessieres Island, northwest of Onslow, Western Australia. The holotype was collected from a depth of 1.5-2 m in a deep gutter, in coral-rock reef with rock, coral rubble and sandy silt bottom, and small caves in sides of gutter. |

Dorsal fin VI + 1,9 (all segmented rays branched); Anal fin 1,9 (all segmented rays branched); Pectoral fin 16 (all rays branched); Pelvic fin 1,5 (all segmented rays branched); Caudal fin 9+8 (segmented rays), 7+6 (branched rays), 6+6 (unsegmented upper and lower rays); Gill rakers 3+10 (relatively long and slender); Vertebrae 10+16; Lateral scale series 26-27; Transverse scale series 12-13. Body depth at pelvic-fin origin 20.3% SL; body depth at anal-fin origin 18.6% SL; cephalic sensory pores absent; tongue slightly bilobed, tip free. Head, nape, prepelvic area and narrow area of body immediately below dorsal fins naked; scales on body and caudal peduncle mostly large and ctenoid, becoming smaller, less regularly arranged and cycloid on belly, immediately adjacent to anal-fin base, and on dorsal part of body (approximately above oblique line passing from pectoral-fin axil to base of last second-dorsal-fin ray). Pelvic-fin rays reaching slightly beyond anus; fifth segmented pelvic-fin rays broadly united basally by fin membrane, pelvic fraenum absent. |
Etymology |
The specific name is from the Latin nota (= mark), in reference to the pale spots on the dorsal part of the body. |
