Summary:
A translucent green to yellowish-green goby with about 12 narrow brown to golden-brown bars across the head and body. Males have a distinct black blotch on rear of the second dorsal fin.

Distribution

Recorded in Australia from Rowley Shoals, Western Australia, and Sydney, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species occurs in the Indo-west-central Pacific.
Inhabits shallow reef flats with algae and seagrass areas, usually on blades of broad-leaved seagrasses, such as those of the genus Enhalus, along with Halophila.

Feeding

Feeds on small crustaceans from seagrass blades or adjacent water column.

Etymology

The specific name bilobatus is from the Latin bi- (= two) and lobata (= lobed), in reference to the bilobate tongue of this species.
