Distribution

Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, from Lizard Island to Yule Point. Elsewhere the species occurs in the east-Indo-west-central Pacific (Andaman Sea to Palau).
Inhabits muddy and gravelly areas in estuaries and among mangroves.

Etymology

The species is named in honour of Pieter Bleeker, ichthyologist of the Dutch East India Company.
