Distribution

Recorded in Australia from the North West Shelf off Port Hedland, and at Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland. Occurs elsewhere in the tropical Indo-west Pacific. Lives on Dendronephthya and Sarcophyton soft corals and sea pens, usually in areas subject to strong currents.

Features

Dorsal fin VI + I, 7; Anal fin I, 6-8; Pectoral fin 18-20; Longitudinal scale series 22-25. 

Body relatively deep, depth at anus 3.8-5.8 in SL; nape usually scaled to behind eyes; gill opening wide, reaching forward to below posterior edge of eye.
