Summary:
A whitish shrimpgoby with four rows of brown spots (those of the midlateral row large, elongated, and surrounded by pale blue dots), three brown spots on cheek, an oval white spot on pectoral fin, and blue lines and dashes on the head.

Distribution |
Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, and reefs in the Coral Sea. Elsewhere, the species occurs in the tropical east-Indo-west-Pacific. Inhabits sandy and rubble areas in lagoons and on sheltered reefs. |

Similar Species |
Differs from the similar Ctenogobiops pomastictus in having an elongate second dorsal-fin spine as an adult, 46-52 scales in a longitudinal series on the body (vs 55-59 in C. pomastictus), and one row (vs. two rows) of dark spots on the cheek. |

Etymology |
The specific name mitodes is from the Greek mitodes meaning 'threadlike' in reference to the filamentous second dorsal-fin spine of adults. |
