Summary:
A pale bluish-grey goby with pale orange-brownish spots on the dorsal, anal and caudal fins, orange stripes and a row of paired dark brown spots along the sides, ending in a single spot on the caudal-fin base. The first dorsal fin has filamentous spines.

Dorsal fin VII + 10; Anal fin I, 9; Pectoral fin 17; Caudal fin 17 (segmented rays), 12-15 (branched rays).; Longitudinal scale series 28 (28-30). Dorsal-fin spines elongate, filamentous, the second longest (1.59-2.07 in SL). |
Colour |
Pale bluish-grey with small yellow to brownish-orange spots on the head and body, those on body mostly joined to form stripes along the scale rows; 4 pairs of dark brown spots on lower sides, and a single spot at the caudal-fin base; a few smaller dark brown spots on body, mostly in a row dorsally and one ventrally; dorsal and caudal fins covered with numerous, relatively large, orangish to yellowish brown spots. |
Etymology |
Named akihito in honour of the Emperor of Japan, in recognition of his significant contribution to our knowledge of gobiid systematics. Many of the type specimens ofE. akihito were supplied by the Biological Laboratory of the Imperial Household in Tokyo. |
