Distribution

Nadgee, southern New South Wales, to  Kangaroo Island, South Australia, and coastal Tasmania.
Inhabits intertidal and subtidal reefs, often in weedy areas.

Gobiesox cardinalis Ramsay 1882, Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales 1 7(2): 148. Type locality: near George Town, northern Tasmania.
