More Info
Distribution |
Circum-Antarctic on the continental shelf and slope. |
Feeding |
Carnivores - feed mostly on krill; also consume small fishes (nototheniids and myctophids). |
Biology |
The sexes are separate and fertilisation is external. Prior to spawning, males develop temporary thickened areas or "knobs" on their anal fin rays. These structures. They use these knobs to prepare a nest on the bottom which they flatten and and maintain with "sweeping" movements of the anal fin. |
