Distribution	West of Exmouth Gulf to off Broome, Western Australia, and possibly north to the Arafura Sea, Northern Territory.
Similar Species	Differs from other Tosana species in having a combination of 24 circumpeduncular scales, and a pectoral-fin length of 28.4–28.9% SL.
Etymology	The specific name dampieriensis refers to the distribution of this species in the Australian Marine biogeographical Dampierian region.
