Genus Notorynchus

Summary:

A monotypic genus widely distributed in cool temperate waters with 7 pairs of gill slits. Head broad; snout broadly rounded, length much less than 1.5 times the internarial space; horizontal diameter of eye considerably less than the internarial distance; upper teeth with a slender cusp angled outward, lower teeth comb-like with 4–7 cusps angled and decreasing in length toward outer side of base, 3–6 tiny cusps on inner edge of base, distinctive median tooth in both jaws.
