Genus Sympterichthys

A handfish genus with two species, one of which is considered to be extinct by the IUCN. 
Species of Sympterichthys have skin covered in small embedded scales with adpressed, unicuspid and bicuspid spinules that originate from the posterior margin of their bases. They have no warts or dermal appendages on the skin.
