Genus Vanacampus


Summary:
An endemic Australian genus with 4 species. Body elongate, trunk shallow; head aligned with body; snout moderately long; median dorsal snout ridge not confluent with supraorbital ridges; longitudinal opercular ridge usually complete; STR and STAR discontinuous near rear of dorsal‑fin base; ITR and ITAR continuous; LTR not confluent with tail ridges; eggs brooded in enclosed pouch on underside of tail just behind anal fin; tail not prehensile; dorsal fin slightly closer to tip of snout than tail, with base of moderate length; anal fin tiny, below anterior portion of dorsal fin; caudal fin small; pectoral fins present.
