Genus Xenodermichthys


Summary:

Found worldwide with two species, one off Australia. Body fusiform; head very small, less than 25% SL (larger than 14cm SL); snout broadly rounded, short, length less than 5% SL in adults; eye very large; jaws short, upper not to rear of eye; maxillary without teeth; scales absent, no ring-like scales in lateral line but pored dermal tube well developed; many large, nodular photophores on head and body. Only to 20cm SL.
