Genus Eptatretus

Summary:

The genus Eptatretus comprising more than 30 species, is found in all major oceans. Five species are known from Australian waters. Species have efferent branchial ducts opening separately through 5–16 external gill openings.

Etymology: Eptatretus is a combination of hepta, meaning 'seven', and tretos, meaning 'perforated' -referring to seven gill apertures
