Genus Heteroclinus


Summary:
An endemic Australian genus with more than 25 species, many of which are undescribed. Weedfishes usually live amongst algae and seagrasses, particularly macroalgae on rocky reefs. 
Caudal peduncle very slender; head and eye of moderate size; anterior lateral-line scales overlapping, each with single median posterior pore, posterior scales not overlapping, each with median pore at either end; caudal fin usually rounded; pectoral fins large, rounded.
