An endemic Australian genus with 25 species, including many undescribed species. Weedfishes usually live amongst algae and seagrasses, particularly macroalgae along rocky reefs. Caudal peduncle very slender; head (23-33 % SL) and eye (4-12% SL) of moderate size; anterior lateral-line scales overlapping, each with single median posterior pore, posterior scales not overlapping, each with median pore at either end; caudal fin usually rounded; pectoral fins large, rounded.
