Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, Queensland; also Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species is widespread in the Indo-west-central Pacific: Red Sea, Christmas Island and Cocos Keeling Islands, Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea (Australia) east to the Hawaiian Islands, Line Islands, Marquesas Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Japan, south to New Caledonia and Tonga. |
Similar Species |
The similar Longfin Perchlet, Plectranthias longimanus, lacks the narrow dark vertical bar on the caudal-fin base of P. nanus. |
