Summary:
A yellowish-brown chromis with rows of dark-edged blue spots forming stripes along the side, a yellow spot at the base of the last dorsal-fin rays.

Distribution

Scott Reef, Western Australia, and the northern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, east-Indo-west Pacific: Christmas Island and Indonesia east to Palau and Solomon Islands, south to northern Great Barrier Reef (Australia) and Vanuatu.
Inhabits the upper edge of outer reef slopes in areas of rich coral growth, often near the entrance or ceiling of large caves at depths to 10 m.

Features

Dorsal fin XII, 11-12; Anal fin II, 11-12; Pectoral fin 17; lateral-line scales 14-15; Gill rakers 22-24.
Body depth 2.1-2.3 in SL.

Similar Species

Differs from similar species in having a yellow spot at the base of the last dorsal-fin rays. 
Vanderbilt's Puller, Chromis vanderbilti, has a yellow upper caudal-fin lobe, a black lower lobe, and a broad yellow submarginal band on the dorsal fin. 
The Blacktail Chromis, C. nigrura, has a yellow caudal fin, with or without a black streak along the upper and lower lobes, and a narrow blue margin on the dorsal and anal fins.
