A deep-bodied silvery herring with a single distinct black spot behind gill cover. The species lacks dark tips on the dorsal and caudal fins.

North of the Finniss River, Fog Bay, Northern Territory, to Weipa, Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland; also West Papua, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea. Pelagic in coastal, marine, freshwater and estuarine habitats. |
