Distribution |
East of Kiama, New South Wales, to south of Robe, South Australia, also southeast of Middleton Reef, Tasman Sea. The identity of specimens from New South Wales is uncertain and additional specimens are required to more accurately determine distribution. Elsewhere the species occurs in the temperate, south-east Pacific: New Zealand and the Juan Fernández Islands, Chile. The species is bathydemersal on the continental slope at depths between 1425 - 2515 m. |

Dorsal fin II, 7-8; Pectoral fin 17-19; Pelvic fin 9-10; Gill rakers 8-10 (inner, 11-12); Pyloric caecae 8-10. Body scales deciduous, spinules exposed field reduced or lacking. Leading edge of long spinous ray of first dorsal fin with numerous short, reclined spinules; outer pelvic-fin ray slightly elongate. |

In preservative - overall dark brownish, somewhat darker on head; blackish over operculum, gill membranes and jaws; fins dark. |
