Summary:
A reddish seabass becoming silver below with a large red eye, reddish fins, a black margin on the spinous dorsal and caudal fins, a black mouth cavity, and large deciduous scales.

Off North West Cape, Western Australia, to the Arafura Sea, Northern Territory, and possibly in the Coral Sea, off Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the east-Indo-west Pacific. |
Features |
Dorsal fin IX + 10; Anal fin III, 6-8. Scales large, deciduous; pelvic-fin spine smooth. Inside of mouth cavity black. |
Colour |
Head and body reddish, gradually becoming silver below, with red eyes, reddish fins, a narrow black margin on the spinous dorsal and caudal fin, and a dark oral cavity. |
Feeding |
Feeds on crustaceans and molluscs. |
