Distribution

Northwest Shelf off Port Hedland, to off Cape Leveque, Western Australia; also on the Norfolk Ridge in the Tasman Sea. 

Colour

Head and body blackish-red (dull red at ca. 40 mm SL or greater), uniformly scattered with black pigment spots, and sometimes a few dark smudges posteriorly on the palate. All fins blackish-red to pale-red, with distal margins of soft-rayed portions white (distal margin of pectoral fin black in large individuals); pectoral-fin base faintly black or absent; iris yellowish-gold to reddish-gold.
