Family BLENNIIDAE
Common name: Blennies
Summary:
A large family of small active fishes with scaleless bodies, blunt heads with eyes on top, the mouth low on the head, fleshy flaps around the nostrils and often cirri, tentacles or fleshy crests on top of the head. Blennies have reduced pelvic fins and long-based dorsal and anal fins.
Most blennies have wide mouths, usually with closely-packed comb-like teeth, and live on shallow tropical reefs, in tiny crevices, holes, discarded shells, and even bottles and cans.
