Genus Parapriacanthus


Summary:
An Indo-West Pacific genus with 10 species, 5 of which occur in Australian waters. 
Characteristics: body moderately deep; mouth oblique; teeth largest anteriorly, a single row in upper jaw anteriorly and 2 rows posteriorly, multiple rows in lower jaw anteriorly and a single row posteriorly; light organ present; scales small, spinulose or very weakly ctenoid, firmly attached, absent from anal-fin base; lateral line ending halfway to caudal-fin margin; dorsal fin moderately high; first few anal-fin rays much longer than posterior rays; pelvic fins not reaching anus.
