Genus Scalicus


Summary:
A small genus of armoured searobins with the following characteristics: upper jaw toothless, lateral margin of head smooth, posterior pairs of lower lateral rows of bony plates separated from each other, barbels on lower jaw not branched except for posteriormost lip and chin barbels, and counts of dorsal and anal fn soft rays greater than 19 (Kawai 2008, 2013).
