Genus Cataetyx
Summary:
A genus of cuskeels with more than 12 species found near the bottom at continental shelf, slope and abyssal depths variously around the world. Three described species and a number of undescribed species occur in Australian waters.
Features: Body tapering to point; head moderately small; eyes small, less than snout length; anterior nostril in short tube at tip of snout; mouth large, tip of maxillary expanded vertically; palatine teeth present; opercle with stout spine; gill membranes free from isthmus; scales tiny, cycloid, covering most of body and head; dorsal and anal fins broadly joined by membranes to caudal fin, virtually inseparable; caudal fin pointed.
