Common name: Livebearers, pupfishes
Summary:

This order includes 10 families, 109 genera and about 1013 species, largely found in fresh and brackish waters of the Americas and Africa to Asia (Nelson 2006). No species in the order is native to Australia. Several species have been introduced for mosquito control or through release of aquarium fishes (Allen et al. 2002). Species in two families now have breeding populations in the wild in Australia.
