Summary:
A rare uniform dark brown eel blenny with a whitish margin on the dorsal, anal and caudal fins, a pale yellowish gill cover, pectoral and pelvic fins, a row of two or three dark ocelli across the cheek, a small ocellus on each side of the barbel, a pair of larger ocelli on each side of chin below the eyes, and a faint ocellus near the rear of the dorsal fin.

Shark Bay, Western Australia, to Sweers Island, Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland. Inhabits inshore sandy-weed areas. |
Colour |
Holotype: General colour, dark chocolate, uniform and without spots, almost blackish except for the margins of dorsal, anal and caudal fins which are dull white. Pectoral and ventral fins and opercular membrane yellowish white. Eye bluish. Cheeks, behind mouth, crossed by two or three dark ocelli of irregular pear-shape margined with yellowish. A small ocellus on each side of barbel and a pair of larger ocelli on each side of chin below eyes. A faint ocellus 4 rays from end of dorsal. |
Etymology |
The species is "Named in honour of Mr. John Gregory, who greatly assisted me in his capacity as Fisheries Officer at Sharkâs Bay". |
