Distribution

Offshore reefs of north Western Australia (Rowleys Shoals & Scott Reef), and Ashmore Reef in the Timor Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in eastern Indonesia (Bali to West Papua), Palau, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands.
Inhabits coral and rocky reefs, sheltering in small caves on reef slopes and drop-offs at depths to 70 m.
