Summary:
A large bluish-green tuskfish with a small prominent black spot at the base of last dorsal-fin spine, and a bluish bar on each body scale forming rows of spots along the rear sides. Juveniles have a large white saddle behind the black spot.

Distribution

Widespread in northern Australia from the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, Western Australia, to at least Julian Rocks, New South Wales. The species occurs elsewhere in the tropical West Pacific.

Feeding

Carnivore - feeds on hard-shelled prey including crustaceans, molluscs and sea urchins.

Biology

A monandric protogynous hermaphrodite.
