Summary:
A large bluish-green tuskfish with a small prominent black spot at the base of last dorsal-fin spine, and a bluish bar on each body scale forming rows of spots along the rear sides. Juveniles have a large white saddle behind the black spot.

Distribution |
Widespread in northern Australia from the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, Western Australia, to at least Julian Rocks, New South Wales. The species occurs elsewhere in the tropical West Pacific. |
Feeding |
Carnivore - feeds on hard-shelled prey including crustaceans, molluscs and sea urchins. |
Biology |
A monandric protogynous hermaphrodite. |
