Summary:
A dark greyish butterflyfish with darker chevron markings on the side, a birght yellow head with three reddish-brown bar including one on the snout, and a bright yellow submarginal band on the tail.

Distribution |
Rowley Shoals and Scott Reef , Western Australia, Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, and the northern Great Barrier Reef to Moreton Bay, Queensland; also Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean. the species occurs elsewhere in the tropical, east-Indo-west Pacific. Inhabits shallow reefs, often around Acropora plate corals. |
Feeding |
An obligate corallivore - feeds on coral polyps. |
Fisheries |
Although occasionally collected for the aquarium trade, the Triangular Butterflyfish is difficult to maintain in captivity due to its diet of live corals. |
