Summary:
A bright yellow butterflyfish, with a dark blue-edged bar through the eye, a large blue-edged black spot on back, and a pair of pale blue diagonal stripes across the lower side.

Distribution |
Rowley Shoals and Scott Reef, Western Australia, Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, and the northern Great Barrier Reef to Moreton Bay, Queensland, and the Lord Howe Province in the Tasman Sea; also at Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Indian Ocean. Elsewhere, the species occurs in the tropical Indo-west central Pacific from East Africa to French Polynesia. Inhabits reef lagoons and coral-rich areas on outer reefs. Juveniles may occur amongst the branches of dense Acropora corals. |
Feeding |
An traded in the aquarium industry, this species feeds only on live corals, and as a result is difficult to maintain in aquaria. |
