Summary:
A pale grubfish with black speckles scattered over the head and body, a large black blotch on the tail, a semicircular or M-shaped brown band and many dark spots on the cheek area. Males have 3-4 ocelli and several blackish and brownish spots on the lower sides; females and juveniles have a series of 6-7 ocelli on the lower sides separated by brownish spots or patches. 
In Australia, this species was previously misidentified as Parapercis hexophtalma, which occurs in the Indian Ocean

Distribution

Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, and offshore reefs of north Western Australia (e.g. Scott reef). Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, west Pacific.
