Summary:
A deep-bodied silvery bluish-black trevally becoming metallic brown below, with a white tongue, roof and floor of the mouth. The scaleless area on the breast extends to the pectoral-fin base, and the curved part of the lateral line is somewhat longer than the straight part that follows. Juveniles have a series of broad dark bands along the side.

Distribution

Exmouth Gulf, Western Australia, to off Wollongong, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species is widespread in the tropical Indo-west-central Pacific from South Africa east to the Philippines, south to Australia and north to Hawaii.

Features

 Dorsal fin VIII + I, 25-30; Anal fin II + I, 17-22; Gill rakers 5-7 + 13-16 = 18-22; V 10+14; Curved part of lateral-line with 61-82 scales, straight part of lateral line with 26-38 scutes. 
Body ovate, somewhat deep, compressed; dorsal profile more strongly convex than ventral profile. Lower jaw projecting in adults, gill rakers very long, entering into mouth. Breast widely naked to pectoral fin base and behind insertion of pelvic fins.

Similar Species

The similar Uraspis secunda differs in having the curved part of the lateral line (with 48-66 scales) shorter than the straight part vs. the curved portion (with 61-82 scales) usually longer than the straight part in U. uraspis.
