Summary:
A bluish-green damselfish becoming silvery white below with five relatively broad bluish-black bars along the side, and a yellowish hue often on the upper head and side.

Distribution

Busselton, northwards including offshore reefs of Western Australia, and Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, to Mallacoota, Victoria, including reefs in the Coral Sea; also the Lord Howe Province and Norfolk Island in the Tasman Sea, and Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands in the eastern Indian Ocean. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific: Red Sea and eastern Africa to Hawaii and the Line and Tuamotu islands, north to southern Japan, and south to Australia.
Inhabits the upper edge of outer reef slopes and inshore rocky reefs.

Features

Dorsal fin XIII,12-14; Anal fin II,11-13.
Body depth 1.5-1.8 in SL; caudal fin forked.

Feeding

Feeds on zooplankton, benthic algae, and small invertebrates.

Etymology

The species is named for the type locality, Pulau Waigeo, Indonesia.
