Distribution |
Rottnest Island to the Dampier Archipelago and offshore reefs, Western Australia, Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, and the northern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, to Sydney, New South Wales, also Lord Howe Island in the Tasman Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific - Red Sea, and East Africa eastwards to Marquesas Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan, south to Australia, Tonga and the Austral Islands. Inhabit surge zone and along the edges of gutters and drop-offs. Juveniles often shelter in holes and crevices on the reef crest. |
