Summary:
A very rare eel blenny with a short dark bar from behind the eye ending in a dark spot on the gill cover, a diagonal dark bar acrossthe cheek, and no spot on the shoulder region.

Distribution |
Endemic to north-western Australia from Exmouth Gulf to Middle Mangrove Island, north of Onslo, Western Australia. Inhabits sandy and muddy areas with Sargassum algae (and very little coral) on shallow rocky limestone reefs, often in muddy rock pools - usually in depths to 1 metre. |
Features |
Dorsal fin I, 57-61; Anal fin 47-50; Vertebrae 63-65. Gill membranes fused ventrally with posterior margin free from isthmus; lateral line single, short anterodorsal section; teeth in outer row of dentary and premaxilla 14-21. |
Etymology |
The species is named in honour of Rick Winterbottom, in recognition of his important contributions to the systematics and biogeography of congrogadines and other fishes, and in appreciation of his support and encouragement. |
