Summary:
A dragonet with a double series of small pearly spots along the lower side, a dark anal fin with many darker spots, and the first dorsal spine is extended with a filament in males.

Distribution

North West Cape and offshore reefs of north Western Australia (Rowley Shoals, Scott Reef), Ashmore Reef, Timor Sea, and the far northern Great Barrier Reef and reefs in the Coral Sea, to the Solitary Islands, New South Wales (and possibly further south to Sydney Harbour); also Cocos (Keeling) Islands in the eastern Indian Ocean, and Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island in the Tasman Sea. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, east-Indo-west-central Pacific.
Inhabits sand, mud, or dead coral rubble areas in coastal bays, estuaries, lagoons and outer reef slopes.

Features

Dorsal fin IV, 8; Anal fin 7. 
Unbranched infraorbital canal, very short upward and downward branches of lateral line; males with a filamentous first dorsal-fin spine. 

Feeding

Feeds mostly on small benthic invertebrates.

Etymology

The species is named goramensis after the Goram Archipelago, Indonesia - the type locality.
