Distribution

Off Wollongong, New South Wales. Elsewhere the species occurs off South Africa.

Features

Dorsal fin 34; Anal fin 21; Gill rakers 6-8 + 16-18 = 22-26; Vertebrae 18+20=38.
Multiple fingerlike papillae present along dorsal margin of hyoid arch and at articulation of interhyal and posterior ceratohyal; elongated pharyngobranchial teeth; vomerine teeth 0-1; palatine teeth 2-3.

Size

Vertebrae 18 + 20 5 38; dorsal-fin rays 34; anal-fin rays 21; pectoral-fin rays 18;  gill rakers 6–8 (8) + 16–18 (18) 5 22–26 (26).

Etymology

The specific name is from the Latin digitus (= finger), in reference to the fingerlike papillae on the dorsal surface of the hyoid arch.
