Summary:
A yellowish goby with white saddles and faint brown spots above; a small black blotch halfway up the front of the first dorsal fin, dusky tips on the anal fin, and a black chin. 
Larson (2019) does not record S. insiduans from Australia or elsewhere in the Pacific Ocean, indicating that Australian material has been misidentified.

Distribution

North-western, Western Australia, and Cape Island, Queensland. Elsewhere the species occurs in the tropical, Indo-west Pacific.. Elsewhere the species is widespread in the Indian Ocean. Inhabits sandy areas, often in streams that run into beaches.

Etymology

The specific name is from the Latin insinuans (= penetrating), perhaps in reference to the , allusion not explained, perhaps referring to its living in sand
